Clara Loisch featured on Winter Concert

The KPB 2018 Winter Concert in February was the third appearance of flutist Clara Loisch as a KPB Solo Competition Winner.  She won the High School Division in 2012 and performed as College Division winner in 2015 as a freshman at Taylor University.  This year, she is completing her Bachelor's degree in Instrumental Performance on the flute. Her decision to seek music as a lifelong passion began when she fell in love with the flute at age six.    Clara won the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto/Aria Competition in 2016, the 2017 NFA Frances Blaisdell Scholarship Competition, and the 2017 William Bennett Masterclass Competition.  She is the inaugural recipient of the Straubinger Flute Scholarship, offsetting much of the cost of her professional instrument. In addition, Straubinger also sponsored her participation in the James Galway Flute Festival in Weggis, Switzerland last summer.  The Blaisdell Scholarship provided her expenses to attend the 2017 National Flute Association in Minneapolis.  Clara currently holds the highest academic and music scholarships at Taylor University; this past fall, she was awarded the music department’s Presser Scholarship.

   She is principal flutist  in both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra at Taylor and was named a principal chair in the 2018 IMEA Intercollegiate Honor Band. This spring, she will perform as a featured soloist with the TU Wind Ensemble.

   Clara has also performed in the flute sections of the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, Kokomo Park Band, Indiana Wind Symphony, and White River Wind Symphony.  Chamber music experience includes the TU Flute Choir, the  Indiana Wind Symphony Quintet, and the “Bach Trio” - a professional chamber ensemble based in North Central Indiana.

  Clara plans to pursue a Master’s Degree on flute at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her aspirations include teaching, performing, and collaborating with other musicians. Clara would like to thank her parents and siblings for their support, her flute teacher Trudy Whitford for her instruction and encouragement, and God for His unending wisdom and grace.
