Info for Musicians
Qualified Musicians wishing to play in the KPB - please read
The Kokomo Park Band is a professional organization of highly skilled players. The KPB has a strict instrumentation and maintains a set roster and substitute list. Musicians are moved to from the sub list to the set roster as openings occur. Special consideration is given to qualified musicians living in the Howard County area. Qualifications include the following:
Professional training/experience
Exceptional advanced sight-reading ability
Ability to match style, articulation, tone quality and balance within section.
Maintenance of musical skills
Reputation from participation in musical activities in the area
Those new to the area can establish themselves by becoming active in such endeavors as the Howard County (IU-K) Community Band, Tipton Community Band, etc.

Include a brief summary of your musical training and experience
Your information will be forwarded to the section leader for your instrument.
The section leader will contact you to determine the best way to proceed with the audition process.
Useful Information for our Musicians
1. Bring a music stand to all rehearsals and concerts.
2. Concert Dress: Men - black golf/polo shirt (KPB logo shirt preferred), black pants, black shoes, black socks. Women - black top (KPB logo shirt preferred), black slacks or skirt, black shoes. NO SANDALS. [Note: Expressions in Kokomo can provide the embroidered KPB logo on a shirt of your choosing.) Please note: Side by Side student participants are to wear white shirts.
3. Regular summer schedule: Tuesday rehearsals 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Highland Park Stage in 2021 and at Northwestern School (use door 38) if it rains. [We hope to be back at the American Legion Post 6 (see map) in 2022.]
Wednesday concerts 7:30 p.m. Highland Park. Always check your schedule carefully as there are occasionally some changes. Other sites used are Kokomo High School, Havens Auditorium-IU-K, Northwestern Auditorium.
4. In case of rain there is a text messaging system in place. Information will be provided at the rehearsal. Otherwise, come to the park first for instructions. There will be a concert somewhere. The decision to move inside is determined around 5pm on the day of the concert.
5. If you are a first time member please see the attendance officer at the first rehearsal. You will need to complete a Form 1099 as well as verify your phone number and e-mail address.
6. If you take a music folder home after a rehearsal, it is your responsibility to see that the folder is at the concert, even if you are not there. Do not take folders home after a concert.

From IN 931 (Old US 31), turn west on Lincoln Rd (Chrysler Plant)
Turn right (north) at 2nd light - LaFountain Street
Club house is on the right (east side of street)

From the South: Take the downtown Kokomo exit at Alto Road, immediately turn right and proceed north on Washington Street.
Turn left on Defenbaugh. The band shell is to the right.
From the North: Turn right on Markland Avenue (35/22). Turn left on Washington and then right on Defenbaugh.
RAIN-OUT/FLOODING VENUE
From IN. 931 (Old US 31) turn west on Lincoln Road, go through 6 stop lights, the school is on the northwest corner of Lincoln and Berkley Roads.
Park on the west side of the building, the auditorium entrance is on the west side.

Preferred Winter Concert Venue
on the campus of Indiana University Kokomo
Park on lower level - enter at loading dock and take stairs/elevator to main floor.
Percussion may park behind stage.
