Stephen W. Pratt is professor of music and director of Bands/Wind Conducting at the Jacobs School of Music, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and teaches graduate conducting as well as other courses in the Wind Conducting graduate program. Under his direction, the renowned Indiana University Wind Ensemble has performed at several national conventions and in other distinguished venues.
He has been a member of the IU Jacobs School of Music faculty since 1984. In 1993, he was a national recipient of the Distinguished Service to Music Medal awarded by Kappa Kappa Psi, the national collegiate band honorary organization. In 1998, he was honored with the Outstanding Bandmaster Award by the Gamma chapter of Phi Beta Mu. In 2001, he was honored with the Outstanding University Music Educator Award, given by the Indiana Music Educators Association.
Professor Pratt is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician of bands and orchestras across the nation. He is a member of the American Bandmasters Association, the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, MENC, Phi Beta Mu, and the Indiana Bandmasters Association. He is music director/conductor emeritus of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra as well as past president and current board member of the Big Ten Band Directors Association.
Arthur Reiner, a native of Kitchener, Ontario, has lived in the United States since 1969 when he came to Indianapolis to attend Butler University. He just became a U. S. citizen this spring. A former student of Charles Henzie and Paul Berns at Butler, he has also studied jazz drumming privately with John von Ohlen and Jim Chapin.
Over the years, Mr. Reiner has been a percussion instructor in various Indianapolis schools and has been percussion instructor at the University of Indianapolis since 1990 and has been a clinician with Young Audiences of Indiana. In addition, Mr. Reiner has been involved for many years as a percussion instructor for youth in the Young Audiences Summer Arts for Youth Program and with the Indianapolis Parks and YMCA summer camps
Mr. Reiner’s recording experience includes being Staff Percussionist for Hal Leonard Corp.for the past 20 years, a member of the Airborn Group for the past 14 years, and working at the Ripple FX studio in Indianapolis for the past 8 years.
Mr. Reiner’s performance experience includes appearances with the Indianapolis Brass Choir, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, the Kokomo Park Band, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Indianapolis Ballet Theater, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and he has recently performed on the University of Indianapolis Chamber Music series.
As a commercial performer, Mr. Reiner has played for The Diamonds, the Jim Edison Orchestra, the George Freije All-Stars, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Starlight Musicials for 8 season, Holiday on Ice, Tony Bennett, Bob Hope, George Burns, Red Skelton, Myron Florin and the Stars of Lawrence Welk, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gormet, the Temptations, Claude Bolling and the Moody Blues among others.
The 2015 KPB High School Solo Competition Winner, flutist Jamie Edwards, is a 2015 graduate of Western High School. She has been playing the flute for seven years and is currently studying privately with Trudy Whitford. She has earned numerous gold ratings on solo performances on the flute as well as ensembles. For five years, she has been a dedicated member of the Western High School Marching Band which has earned four State Championships during that time. She served as drum major for the past two years and has also participated in several honor bands including Air Ensemble, All-District, Ball State Honor Band Wind Ensemble, and the IU Summer Music Clinic. She plans to continue her studies in music at DePauw where has received $32,000 in scholarships for both musical and academic achievement. Her selection is “The Swiss Shepherd” was written in 1850 by Pietro Morlacchi. The composer was an accomplished flutist from Milan, Italy.
