At Indiana Wesleyan University she served for 23 years as Professor of Flute and also taught music appreciation courses.   She also has taught at Indiana University - Kokomo where she developed a course in jazz appreciation.  Mrs. Whitford has a Bachelors Degree in Flute Performance from Western Illinois University and a Masters Degree in Music Performance from James Madison University in Virginia.   She is principal flutist in the Kokomo Symphony, Kokomo Park Band and Marion Philharmonic and has performed in the Muncie Symphony, Lafayette Symphony, Owensburo Symphony, Roanoke (VA) Symphony and the Camerata Winds in Memphis TN.   

Karl Gilbert of Greentown passed away on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.   He was only 61 years old.  He taught at Indiana Wesleyan University, Manchester College and Taylor University.   Over the years, he directed percussion sections at Western, Eastern, Tri--Central, and Taylor high schools.  In addition, he maintained a private percussion studio in the Kokomo-Howard County area for 40 years.    Mr. Gilbert graduated from Eastern High School in 1972 before pursuing a degree in Percussion Performance at Indiana University in Bloomington.   Karl  played in the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, Kokomo Symphony, Anderson Symphony, Muncie Symphony, Manchester Symphony and the Lafayette Symphony.    He served as an adjudicator for ISSMA, composed and published compositions for percussion students and was a member of the Percussive Arts Society.  He will be remembered for his outstanding musicianship as well as his unique sense of humor. Karl will be greatly missed.   

Trudy Whitford is a private flute teacher in Kokomo and an active professional performer and clinician.  Originally from Kokomo and a graduate of Western High School, Mrs. Whitford  currently serves on the faculty of Taylor University where she is the flute instructor, flute choir director and teaches courses in music and art appreciation.
